KRAMERIA RESIDENCE

This 1950s Denver house was completely overhauled with the goal of preserving its Ranch style identity, while modernizing its layout and finishes.

With ‘weeping’ mortar joints in the existing brick walls, a dilapidated Tiki bar(!) in the basement, and an interior layout that was 50 years outdated, the existing house certainly needed some work.  Needing to expand the house for their growing family, the owners elected to remodel it and make a discreet addition in the rear.  By keeping the addition away from the street, the original shape and proportions of the house were largely preserved.  While still part of the ‘Ranch’ family, the remodel adds a 'natural'-colored mortar wash over the existing brick, vertically oriented cedar siding, new windows, and new exterior detailing to give it a more tailored look that is both warm and modern.

On the inside, walls were reconfigured to create clean, light-filled spaces, with an expansive new great room and kitchen at the center of the home.  New bedrooms were added, including a private master suite with views of the backyard.  Sadly, the Tiki bar was removed, but the basement now happily houses a guest bedroom and playroom for the owner’s children.

With the house fully rehabilitated, it feels fresh and modern—and ready for its next half-century of use.
